The BY series is Yanmar’s common-rail range for sterndrive and inboard cruisers, the six-cylinder 6BY3, from 150 up to 260 horsepower. Smooth, quiet, modern engines built around electronic fuel injection.
Because they’re fully electronic, they reward proper dealer diagnostics. We read them with Yanmar’s own SmartAssist software and fix the cause, not the symptom.
Who it’s for: Cruiser and sterndrive owners running a 6BY3-150, 6BY3-220 or 6BY3-260 common-rail Yanmar.

Straight from the workshop
Tether the key to the sea cock
If you close the sea cock for the engine every time you leave the vessel, leave the engine key tethered to the sea cock handle. You physically cannot start the engine without opening the water first.
Let it warm up
Always let your engine warm up before working it. A few minutes at the dock gives the oil time to circulate, and you will get a better service life out of the engine for it.
