Yanmar Modern sailboat auxiliaries
Yanmar YM Series
14–30 hp · Modern sailboat auxiliaries, quieter and cleaner

The YM series is the modern small-yacht auxiliary, two and three-cylinder engines from around 14 to 30 horsepower, quieter and cleaner-running than the GMs they followed.
They’re a lovely engine when they’re looked after. Keep on top of the servicing and a YM will get you off the mooring and back, year in, year out.
Who it’s for: Cruising and racing sailors running a 2YM15, 3YM20 or 3YM30 auxiliary.

How we can help
Phil’s tips
Straight from the workshop
Tether the key to the sea cock
If you close the sea cock for the engine every time you leave the vessel, leave the engine key tethered to the sea cock handle. You physically cannot start the engine without opening the water first.
Let it warm up
Always let your engine warm up before working it. A few minutes at the dock gives the oil time to circulate, and you will get a better service life out of the engine for it.
