Yanmar Performance sail & fast cruisers

Yanmar 4LH Series

140–240 hp · The legacy performance four

Official Yanmar 4LH series marine diesel engine

When a yacht or a fast cruiser wanted more than an auxiliary, the 4LH was the engine, a turbocharged four from roughly 140 up to 240 horsepower, with the low-end torque to push a heavy hull along.

It’s a mechanical engine at heart, so it’s honest to work on and well worth keeping alive. We service, repair and rebuild the whole 4LH range.

The 4LH was the performance four that so many fast cruisers ran before the common-rail 4LV arrived, and there are plenty still going strong. We look after all of them.

Who it’s for: Owners of performance sailboats and fast cruisers running a 4LHA-STP or another engine in the 4LH range.

Phil’s tips

Straight from the workshop

Tether the key to the sea cock

If you close the sea cock for the engine every time you leave the vessel, leave the engine key tethered to the sea cock handle. You physically cannot start the engine without opening the water first.

Let it warm up

Always let your engine warm up before working it. A few minutes at the dock gives the oil time to circulate, and you will get a better service life out of the engine for it.
