A second life, or a fresh start
Rebuilds & Repowers
Full engine rebuilds and repowers, the same treatment that saw fourteen Sydney Ferries engines rebuilt in ten months.

Sometimes a service isn’t enough, the engine’s done its hours, or it’s time for more reliable power. That’s when you rebuild or repower, and it’s some of the work we’re proudest of.
Whether it’s bringing a tired engine back to life or dropping in a new Yanmar, the job’s done properly from start to finish, so you get years of trouble-free boating out the other side.
“Do it once, do it right.”
What’s involved
Full engine rebuilds
Strip-down, inspection, genuine parts and reassembly to spec, the same approach behind a 42-foot Salthouse commercial repower that’s run three years with zero problems.
Repowers & replacements
Old engine out, new Yanmar in, sized to the vessel, installed and commissioned, with honest advice on the right model for how you actually use the boat.
Fleet & commercial
Set up for volume when it’s needed, fourteen engines rebuilt in ten months for Sydney Ferries, 14,000 horsepower back in service.
Swap-ins when it counts
Where we hold a matching rebuilt engine, a catastrophic failure can become a same-day swap, we’ve got a Sydney to Hobart entrant back to the start line that way.
Why Sydney Diesel Marine
Fourteen engines rebuilt in ten months for Sydney Ferries. A Salthouse repower with zero problems three years on. This is the deep end of what we do.
Phil’s tips
Straight from the workshop
Let it warm up
Always let your engine warm up before working it. A few minutes at the dock gives the oil time to circulate, and you will get a better service life out of the engine for it.
Do not idle for long periods
Marine diesels do not like idling for long stretches. Extended idling glazes the cylinder bores. If the glazing is not extreme, a hard run at high rpm will clear it, but the better habit is not to let it sit idling in the first place.
