Yanmar Planing powerboats
Yanmar 6LY2A-STP
up to 440 hp · The legacy high-output six

The 6LY2A-STP is the legacy high-output six, around 440 horsepower to move a serious planing hull, and a fixture on Sydney sportsfishers and fast cruisers for years.
These engines earn their keep, so they need looking after properly. We service, diagnose and rebuild them, and keep the parts on the shelf.
The 6LY2A-STP is the earlier high-output six that came before the current common-rail 6LY440, and there are plenty still working hard. We look after both.
Who it’s for: Powerboat owners running a 6LY2A-STP, sportsfishers, cruisers and fast launches.

How we can help
Phil’s tips
Straight from the workshop
Tether the key to the sea cock
If you close the sea cock for the engine every time you leave the vessel, leave the engine key tethered to the sea cock handle. You physically cannot start the engine without opening the water first.
Let it warm up
Always let your engine warm up before working it. A few minutes at the dock gives the oil time to circulate, and you will get a better service life out of the engine for it.
